Their are two kinds of people in the
world givers and takers. Most of the time it is very hard to tell
these people apart. This is because there are many different ways
that people show their colors. Some appear receptive and people
oriented. But are secretly they want the positive attention and SHOW
people that they are giving back to the community. The teacher that
goes on the rant that teachers are under appreciated and should hold
a place or respect comes to mind. There are others that keep their
gifts from others to refortify themselves or just to block themselves
from the pain that society can bring. This is a taker because these
people choose only to take the good and leave little when they leave
a place. I want to think of myself as a giver. One of the odd things
about me is that I feel a deep connection with those that suffer. I'm
actually pretty sure most people do. The problem on Calvin's campus
is that very few people know what true suffering is. Its almost like
people are acting out saying "is this suffering?" One of
the hardest things for me to deal with, and I do on a daily basics is
complaints from those that are not suffering. Hardship is not
suffering as I am defining it. I am talking about deep traumatic
suffering. Those are the people that I want to help. People ask what
do you consider beautiful. And I hesitate to say what I think. I
think there is something beautiful about seeing a person that is
lamenting. You connect with that person. Regardless of cultural
background. Regardless of language barriers. Theres something drawing
about that. I can't put my finger on it.

| The beauty of life is that I get to suffer. I live because I suffer. If there is anything more basic that makes one alive I havent found it. As a human being we are inharently optimistic. Even if now sucks we choose to belive that there is a way out or a reason. But maybe the hardship, the trial, the pain is the point. Its the only thing that I can find on a basic level that all people have to experiance and share.

I don't think this applies to any of us.
